SPEAKERS:

ASSISTANT PRESIDING JUDGE CHERI PHAM

On September 2, 2022, Judge Cheri Pham was elected to be Assistant Presiding Judge of the Superior Court of California, County of Orange. Judge Pham is the first Vietnamese American to serve as Assistant Presiding Judge of the Superior Court in California. Judge Pham was elected unopposed to the Orange County Superior Court on June 8, 2010. She was the first Vietnamese American to be elected by voters directly to the bench in California. While waiting to take office on January 1, 2011, Judge Pham was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger in the interim, enabling her to assume her judicial duties on July 21, 2010. From 2008 to 2010, Judge Pham was the first Vietnamese American to be appointed and serve as a Commissioner and Vice-Chair of the John Wayne Airport Commission. Judge Pham is an Adjunct Professor at Chapman University, Dale E. Fowler School of Law where she teaches Advanced Criminal Procedure: Adjudicative Process.

JUDGE NATHAN NHAN VU

Appointed to the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Orange, in June of 2018 by Governor Jerry Brown, He served for four (4) years on the family law panel and is currently assigned to the unlimited civil panel, where he hears a wide variety of civil matters. Judge Vu has volunteered for over 20 years helping high school students in communities that are underrepresented in the legal profession through the Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County and more recently, the Saturday Academy of Law at the University of California Irvine School of Law. Judge Vu has also provided pro bono legal services through the Public Law Center, served on the Advisory Committee to the Dean of UCI Law School on the Vietnamese-American Community, and given presentations for the Institute of Vietnamese Studies.

This event is approved for 1.0 Continuing Legal Education Credit by the State Bar of California; satisfying the ‘Elimination of Bias’ requirement. This activity has been approved for MCLE by the State Bar of California in the amount of 1.0 hour(s) Elimination of Bias, as appropriate to the content of the activity. OCBA is a State Bar approved MCLE provider and certifies that this activity conforms to the standards for approved education activities prescribed by the rules and regulations of the State Bar of California governing MCLE. No partial credit will be given. Attendees must participate in the program in its entirety and sign in on the Sign In Sheet in order to receive Participatory MCLE credit. OCBA reserves the right to substitute speakers.
